Questions, Questions, Questions!

We've been exploring all about questions these past 2 weeks. As students, we are often focused on getting the answer and make this the central focus of our learning. Though finding out answers is important, I think knowing how to ask questions is equally if not more important.

Asking questions means you are thinking deeply about a topic, it means you are curious, and it means you are invested in what you are learning because you are thinking about things that you want to find out.

Last week we learned about different types of questions you can ask, especially when you are reading a text.

The neat thing is that the students are now paying close attention to the types of questions they ask, and how that affects their understanding of a text. Asking too many "robot" questions means you are looking at the text at a superficial level, for example.

Continuing with the theme of "questions", we took our first look at our new unit, Physical Wellbeing. In this unit, we are trying to figure out how our choices affect our health and wellbeing. I was impressed with the types of questions and wonderings that the students had, and hope that they are able to find out some of the answers as we explore this unit further (but if we don't, that's ok too!).
