What is a Belief?

This week, we began exploring the idea of beliefs, and what does the word "belief" actually mean. As a class we have been discussing different things we believe in and dissecting other people's beliefs. Today however, we took a step back and actually asked ourselves: do we all know what the word belief means? and if so, do we all agree on the definition?

In order to answer these questions, we participated in a simple collaborative strategy in which each student wrote down their definition of belief, then they found a partner and together they created a new definition based on their individual ones. We then created groups of 4 and repeated the process and finally we came together as a class to create our definition of belief.

The top half was the key words we took out of the definitions they created in groups of 4. The bottom half was the definition we created together.

During this process we learned about communication, collaboration and compromise. These skills will help us across all areas of our school and lives!
